November 27, 2018
Gandhinagar: Gujarat Govt today said it has capped school bag weight at 10% of the kid’s weight in following the central government’s instruction and related guidelines issued in current month.
According to Education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, school bag weight must not be more than 10% of child’s weight.
He said, schools will need to use only printed literature prescribed by related education board. Schools will need to arrange timetable in a way that students don’t need to come with books of all subjects to school. No homework would be assigned to students studying in class 1 and class 2. Only half an hour homework is permitted to be assigned to class 3 and class 5 students. Class 7 and class 8 students can be assigned one hour/day homework.
The minister further said, classes of only 3-4 subjects are permitted to be conducted in a day. Notebook for homework and classwork should not be separate. There shall be no separate notebook for essay writing.
In order to see that water bottle doesn’t increase the weight, necessary drinking water arrangements need to be made in schools, the minister said.
