Over 50 workers fall ill due to gas leakage in Sarigam GIDC in South Gujarat

Valsad: Over 50 workers of a factory fell ill due to gas leakage in a neighbouring chemical company in Sarigam GIDC area in Valsad district of South Gujarat today.
Police said that Ferric Chloride gas leaked from Vinayak Industries which manufacturer chemicals like Ferric Chloride Liquid and Ferric Chloride Hexahydrate, this afternoon.
Though the gas did not have any effect on the 8 workers present in its campus yet due to wind, it affected 52 others workers of the neighbouring JR Fibreglass Industries Pvt. Ltd, which makes Air Pollution Control Equipments & Fibreglass Reinforced Plastics.
They complained of breathlessness, burning sensation in eyes and nausea and were rushed to government run health center in Vilar town. Three of them were sent to bigger hospital due to their critical condition.
The local Factory Inspector was investigating the incident.
