Torrent Power wins bid for Distribution Franchisee for Shil, Mumbra & Kalwa sub-divisions in Thane of Maharashtra

Gujarat based Torrent Power Limited (TPL) has emerged as winner of the competitive bidding process conducted by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) for appointment of input-based Distribution Franchisee for distribution of electricity in the areas of Shil, Mumbra & Kalwa in Maharashtra, for a period of 20 years.
The company in a statement issued here today informed.
MSEDCL has issued the Letter of Intent (LoI) to TPL and the Distribution Franchisee Agreement (DFA) with MSEDCL will be executed in due course and operations are expected to be taken over soon thereafter. Shil, Mumbra & Kalwa sub-divisions under Thane Urban Circle has a customer base of 2.15 lakhs. FY 2016-17 has been reckoned as base year, Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) loss for the same is ~47% with input MUs of 677 Mus and net sales of ~376 MUs, the statement said.
TPL’s obligations under the DFA will be to distribute electricity to the consumers on behalf of MSEDCL in accordance with applicable Law, Regulations & Directives of MERC. TPL is expected to upgrade the infrastructure, improve quality of supply and lower AT&C losses; whereas MSEDCL is obliged to supply input power at annual input rates as agreed under the DFA, it further added.
Torrent Power Limited, the Rs. 11,776 Crore integrated power utility of the Rs. 18,000 Crore Torrent Group, is one of the largest private sector players in the country with presence across power generation, transmission and distribution. The Company has an Aggregate installed generation capacity of 3,661 MW comprising of 2,730 MW of gas-based capacity, 569 MW of renewable capacity and 362 MW of coal-based capacity. It has an additional 942 MW of renewable projects under construction and on completion of the said projects; the aggregate installed Renewable capacity would be 1,511 MW and the Aggregate Generation Capacity would be over 4,600 MW.
· The Company also distributes nearly 15.96 billion units to over 3.23 million customers in the cities of Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Dholera and Dahej SEZ in Gujarat, Bhiwandi in Maharashtra and Agra in Uttar Pradesh.
· With the award of the Distribution Franchisee at Shil, Mumbra and Kalwa (SMK), TPL has further cemented its position as the leading Company in the Power Distribution business. On takeover of operations at SMK, Torrent will distribute nearly 16.34 billion units to over 3.45 million customers.
