Wind speed likely to remain good for kite flying on Uttarayan day tomorrow, would be slightly slower on Vasi Uttarayan

Ahmedabad: The wind speed on Uttarayan, the festival of kites, one of the most popular and colorful religious celebrations in Gujarat is likely to be very good and conducive for kite-flying tomorrow.
However, the wind speed would remain somewhat slower on the next day ie Basi Uttarayan day on January 15 but it would still likely to be good for kite flying.

Senior Meteorologist of the IMD center here Manorama Mohanty today said that the average wind speed on Uttarayan day tomorrow in Ahmedabad and many other places in Gujarat regions was likely to remain 15 to 20 kilometer per hour on an average and it would be good for kite flying as it requires 10kmph or above for a better experience.

‘However the wind speed is likely to become somewhat slower on Basi Uttarayan day. But still there would be enough wind for a good kite flying experience. Even on Uttarayan day there would be spells when the wind would weaken but most of the time it would be fine for kite flying,’ She added.

Over all it would be good for kite lovers.

In fact for the festival-lover Gujaratis, when Uttarayan knocks around the corner, ‘wind’ takes the center-stage of discussion on the eve of Uttarayan.
On Uttarayan and Basi Uttaryan when lakhs and lakhs of colorurful kites fill the sky across the state iand most of the people are seen on the roof-top through out the day doing kite-fight, shouting ‘Kypochhe’ after cutting the kites and making merry all the way in traditional manner, the presence of good wind adds to the mood while its absence creates a sense of gloom.

So the good news is that like the last two years, this year also there will be enough wind to make kite flying a fun on Uttaryan as well as Basi Uttarayan. Normally for a good kite flying experience the wind speed of 10km per hour is fine.

A dedicated Kite lover Parin Patel of Ghatlodia and another one Shailesh Bhavsar of Chnakyapuri area in the city who assemble their ‘gang’ of kite-cutters on their roof top said ‘ A good wind makes us all so happy. The kites soar higher and make us all cheer up. The Kites on the occasion of Uttaryan should not be mistaken as just flying pieces of papers (kites) but actually these represent the ‘joy and mirth’ of all the Gujaratis.’

Another kite lover Prakashbhai Dave said that he loved Uttaryan and spend most of his time on the roof top with friends and family doing kite flying. He also love the delicious Gujarati food-item eaten on the occasion ie Undhiyu (a mixed vegetable item) and Jalebi.
