Amit Shah, Rupani join common folk to fly kites, strict action keeps Tukkals almost invisible from skyline, at least 5 deaths, 90 injuries in kite flying related accidents

Ahmedabad: Good wind speed added to the joy of Kite-lovers at most of the places across Gujarat including Ahmedabad this Uttarayan when many of the political big-wigs including BJP president Amit Shah and CM Vijay Rupani also joined the common-folk and indulged in ‘kite-fight’ from the roof top.

Interestingly the ban on Chinese sky lantern and the tight police campaign looked like working this year and first time in many years the Tukkals as they are called in local Gujarati language were almost invisible in the skyline this Uttarayan evening.

On the tragic part at least four people including children died and more than 90 suffered injuries in kite flying related incidents across the state as per the reports collected till 8 pm this evening.

 

Five year old girl Priya was killed in Palwar in Mahuva area in Bhavnagar district as a kite string slit her throat accidentally while she was on her roof top.

One Viru Garasia also died in similar manner in Badalpur village in Anand district in central Gujarat. In another kite string caused death an 8 year old boy died in Lavar Chakla of Kasba area in Mahesana while he was riding his cycle. A man riding his motorcycle also died on Dholka Kheda highway as a kite-string suddenly cut his throat. A 10 year old girl had died in Deesa town of Banaskanta as she fell from her roof top during kite flying. 42 more cases of injuries were also reported due to string while 48 cases of injuries caused by falling during kite flying have also been reported so far.

Meanwhile, due to favourable wind conditions kite lovers enjoyed the kite flying almost all day long.

BJP President Amit Shah joined the common folk when he flew kite from a roof top in Nava Vadaj area of the city here. State president of the ruling party Jeetu Vaghani was holding his kite string wheel.

CM Vijay Rupani flew kite in similar manner from the roof of the house of former MLA Bhusan Bhatt in Khadiya area of the old city here. His wife Anjaliben was also present and was holding the kite-string wheel.

Congress backed PAAS leader Hardik Patel went to the Ahmedabad residence of party supported Independent MLA Jignesh Mewani’s place and flew kites together.

Met department has predicted comparatively slower wind on Vasi Uttarayan day tomorrow when lakhs of colourful kites would again fill up the sky-line across Gujarat.
