Surat: PAAS leader and close aide of Congress backed Hardik Patel today surrendered in a local court here in connection with a case pertaining to rioting, damage to the public property and arson after which he was sent to Lajpore central jail under judicial custody.

The case was lodged in Sarthana police station here in 2016 after burning of a ST bus by mob.

His advocate Yashwant Vala said that his client was willing to surrender before the crime branch here but as a senior police official said that he was not having time we decided to let him surrender in a court of law.

Talking to newsmen here before surrender Savani alleged that the police was planning to arrest the PAAS leaders in old cases before coming LS elections. So I came forward myself and surrendered. I would also surrender in all the pending cases against me to foil this conspiracy bid of the state government.

Vala said that the court has also sent a notice to crime branch asking whether they want his custody for remand or not.
