Congress not likely to do pre-poll alliance with NCP in Gujarat: Satav

Ahmedabad: Despite pre-poll pact with Sharad Pawar led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in neighboring Maharashtra, Congress is not likely to do so in Gujarat.

Gujarat Congress in-charge Rajiv Satav, who also happens to be the MP from Maharashtra, told newsmen here today that though NCP and his party were sharing almost 50-50% seats there, any such pre poll pact in Gujarat was not looking likely.

‘We have not got any proposal for the same in Gujarat. Congress in all likelihood would go alone on all seats in Gujarat,’ he said.

It should be mentioned here that NCP is seeking three seats at-least in Gujarat. It is believed that NCP general secretary Shankersinh Vaghela is eyeing Godhra seat for himself. NCP seeks Porbandar and Mahesana seats also.

Candidates for LS polls in Gujarat to be announced only after announcement of the election schedule:Satav

Satav said that the party would announce the name of its candidates for all the Loksabha seats in Gujarat only after the announcement of the poll schedule.

Talking to newsmen here Satav said that the list of the names of the probable candidates have almost been finalized and after screening it would cent to the central election committee for final announcement.

To a query he said that this time it won’t be delayed in the manner it was done during the last assembly election because there were not such a large number of aspirants in the LS polls. ‘In the assembly polls there were so many seats with on an average 10 strong contenders on each of it. In the LS polls the number of seats was much less and the strong contenders per seat were also 2 to 3 on each of these,’ he said.

‘As part of the party strategy the candidates would be announced after the declaration of the poll schedule,’ he said.

Notably, in the last election BJP had won all the 26 LS seats in Gujarat.
