PM Narendra Modi boards metro train in Ahmedabad, inaugurates phase-1, lays stone for phase-2 of the project

Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the first phase of Ahmedabad metro train project. The Prime Minister also laid foundation stone for phase-2 of the project. Shri Modi along with State governor, CM, Dy CM and others boarded Metro train at Vastral metro station and reached Nirant chowkdi. Present in the coach were deaf and dumb children with whom Shri Modi interacted briefly. Shri Modi while sitting in a metro train waived at hundreds of local people gathered on rooftops of apartments all along the route to have a glimpse of the PM. According to GMRC statement, the metro train will carry the passengers with effect of April 6. It is understood that initial run will be free of cost for everyone. The route inaugurated today is located between Apparel Park and Vastral in eastern part of the city. It is around 6 km long elevated route. The route will extend from Apparel park to Kalupur railway station for which tunnel work has been completed. From Kalupur railway station it will further go to Shahpur on the bank of river Sabarmati through tunnels before connecting to western Ahmedabad upto Thaltej. Phase-2 for which Shri Modi laid foundation stone will connect Motera area in Ahmedabad to Mahatma Mandir in capital Gandhinagar. The union cabinet recently approved phase-2. As PM flagged off the first metro train which has been manufactured in South Korea by Hyundai Rotem – the locals gathered there chanted the slogans of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’.
