Postponed CWC meeting of Congress in Gujarat likely on March 12

Ahmedabad:The postponed working committee (CWC) meeting of Congress party is likely to re-scheduled for March 12.

The meeting that was earlier slated to be held on February 28 at Sardar Smarak here and other events including a rally in Adalaj were cancelled in the last minute in the wake of the border situation post Pulwama terror attack.

A senior Congress leader in Gujarat today said that both the state party president Amit Chavda and LoP Paresh Dhanani were going to Delhi today to participate in the screening committee meeting to short list the names of the ticket aspirants for Gujarat seats for coming LS polls.

‘On the sidelines of the meeting they and other leaders would have a discussion about the new dates of CWC. The venues were going to be same as earlier. The tentative new date as per initial telephonic discussion has been put for March 12 but a final call would be taken later,’ he said.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi, his mother and former president of the main opposition party Sonia Gandhi, sister and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, former PM Manmohan Singh were to participate in the party’s working committee (CWC) meeting that was to be held here on February 28.

Later in what would have been the first joint public stage sharing by the three members of Gandhi family, they would have also participated in Jan Sankalp Rally at Trimandir in Adalaj near capital Gandhinagar in the afternoon the same day.

The party leader said that along with the CWC the rally would also be re-scheduled for the same date as planned earlier.
