Hailstorm, strong winds, dust storm, non-seasonal rains reported in parts of Gujarat

Gandhinagar: Non-seasonal rains, strong winds and dusty storms are reported from parts of North Gujarat and Saurashtra including Ahmedabad in the afternoon today.

– One woman is reportedly dead due to lightening in rural Limbdi.

– Mahesana Modhera highway closed for traffic due to uprooted trees.

– A round of heavy shower in Amirgadh belt of Banaskantha district.

– Unseasonal showers cause damage to wheat, groundnut, gram (chana) and coriander seeds in agricultural produce market committee (APMC) yard in Rajkot.

– A tent erected for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public rally at Himmatnagar suffered damages due to strong winds.

– Santalpur, Deodar, Patan rural, Limbdi, Modbi, Rajkt rural, Surendranagar are among the areas that witnessed hailstorm, showers, strong winds and dust storms.

-Light showers were reported in various parts of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. As per the Indian Meteorological Department(IMD), the rain-induced western disturbance over Rajasthan will dissipate on Wednesday, clearing up the sky. The north and central Gujarat might experience cloudy weather but no rain.

– Air Quality monitoring stations in Ahmedabad indicated major drop in air quality in the city, minutes after dust storm. As air quality index drops to 512, indicating presence of PM 10, people were advised to avoid any outdoor physical activity.

– With weather change, the tent for @BJP4India candidate Jashwant Bhabhor in Vatbara village in Dahod district got collapsed due to strong winds.

Ahmedabad:Several places in Gujarat including Ahmedabad city today saw rain, thunderstorm or hailstorm with strong winds.

At least two deaths have also been reported due to rain related incidents.

A woman died in Paddhari area of Rajkot district due to falling of a tree owing to strong winds while another person died in Morbi district due to lightening.

Bhiladi village and around in Diyodar taluka in Banaskantha, Limbadi in Surendranagar, Khakhdawela village and around in Paddhari of Rajkot, Santalpur in Patan and Viramgam in Ahmedabad district among others saw hailstorms.

Several other places also saw rain.

Mahesana district also saw rain with strong winds and Modhera highway was closed for some time due to falling of trees. Various parts of Ahmedabad city also saw rain this evening .

Reports have also poured in about damage to agri produces kept in open in APMCs in Kadi, Rajkot and some other places.

Domes and other structures erected for the election campaign by various parties have also been damaged including the one made in Himmatnagar town of Sabarkantha district where PM Modi is to address an election rally.
