Centre approves 300 more medical seats in Gujarat – 150 each in Visnagar and Nadiad

Gandhinagar: The Centre has given approval to medical college in North Gujarat town Visnagar. This will be the first self financed medical college of North Gujarat. It will add 150 medical seats to total number of medical seats across Gujarat. With this, total number of medical seats in Gujarat is 4450.
Sharing the details of this development, Deputy Cheif Minister Nitin Patel who is MLA from same Mahesana district said, the Centre has approved 150 MBBS seats of Nutan Medical College and Research Centre, Visnagar, which shall be filled from current academic year. Patel said the Centre approved these seats as polling for general elections of Lok Sabha is over in the State.
He said the Centre has approved another 150 seats for nadiad medical college.
The process for approval of these seats was going on for last one year or so.
Inspection work for approval of 300 more medical seats in Ahmedabad and Amreli based two greenfield medical colleges is over, Patel said adding that this will avail approval to another 300 new medical seats in the State.
Patel said the State government under its health policy – 2016, has announced a support scheme which offers Rs. 15 lakh per year assistance per student for each MBBS seat to set up greenfield medical college.
