Doctors, policemen, BJP, congress workers participate in Sabarmati cleaning mega drive on penultimate day

Ahmedabad:Doctors, policemen and workers of main opposition congress today participated in the Swachch Sabarmati Maha Abhiyan on its penultimate/4th day here today.

Leader of Opposition Congress in the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Dinesh Sharma also took part in the drive that was conducted between Gandhi bridge and Vivekanand bridge of the river today.

He said that it was a noble effort of the AMC to make the river clean and all the workers of his party were available for it. Meanwhile doctors of government run hospital, policemen also participated in the drive today.

Notably, On the occasion of the world environment day on June 5, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani had launched the five day river Sabarmati cleaning mega drive in which a large number of common people are also participating.

During the five day drive by the AMC named Swachch Sabarmati Maha Abhiyan which is to continue till June 9, the river would be cleaned between Dufnala/Torrent power to Vasana barrage along riverfront on both sides of it in the city.

Tomorrow on the last day, the drive would be conducted between Vivekanand bridge and Ambedkar bridge.

The initial phase of the cleaning drive had earlier started with flushing out existing water in river Sabarmati to downstream area by opening the gates of Vasna barrage and also by deploying heavy duty pumps and use of ‘bak nali’ method in order to remove dead water. The AMC also diverted waste water lines and prevented dumping of waste/drainage liquid in river Sabarmati on permanent basis. The garbage collection from river bed is in fact the final phase of the mega drive. An estimated 250 tons waste is likely to be removed from the rive bed during the five days drive.
