Ahmedabad: Drivers working with private contractor namely ‘Chartered’ for Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) run Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) buses are on strike over their demand of pay hike.
According to one of the drivers on strike, ‘we get only Rs. 350 for 8 hour job per day. We are seeking Rs. 700 per 8 hour job in order to fulfill our commitment to family. Some of us want their daughter to become doctor, how can we do that with present salary?’
Another driver said, ‘company supervisor visited us today and offered Rs. 30 per 8 hours hike. It is not enough. We seek direct talk with company’s owner Pankajbhai Gandhi over our demand.’
One more driver said, ‘driving a 40-ft bus on busy road for 8 hour is not ordinary job. We are not communicated about the benefits of working in private limited company. We don’t know about our leaves, about any other privilege.’
