114 talukas witness rain under influence of cyclone VAYU, Talala tops with 6 inches, more than 1.6% of average seasonal rain in just 24 hours even as monsoon is yet to make entry

Even as cyclonic storm VAYU did not make a landfall on Gujarat coast yet under its impact a total of 114 talukas of 26 of 33 districts in the state witnessed rainfall while Gir Somnath district which remained closed to the storm that changed course towards Oman, experienced spells of very heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours.

According to official figures maximum 160 mm ie over six inches of rain took place in Talala of Gir-Somnath while Sutrapada in the same district remained second in this regard with 145 mm.
Nine talukas saw more than two inches of rain while 30 saw that in excess of one inch. Among other prominent rain getter taluka were Vanthali in Junagadh district (86mm), Mendarana (72mm), Malia (69mm), Veraval (60mm) and Junagadh city and Talaja in Bhavnagar (57mm each). In Ahmedabad district Dholka received highest 12 mm or half an inch of rain while the city saw just 1 mm or average rain.

Due to rain under the influence of the cyclone which was to make a landfall in Gir Somnath district before it changed course in last moment, the state as in 24 hours seen more than 1.6% of total seasonal rain even though monsoon has not technically arrived in the western state so far.

Met has predicted some rain in coastal areas today.
