Cyclone VAYU to take a recurve towards Gujarat tonight

Gandhinagar: The Severe Cyclonic Storm VAYU which was going away from Gujarat coast would take a recurve tonight and then weaken gradually and likely to cross northern coast of Gujarat as a ‘Depression’ by midnight of June 17 ie tomorrow, the met bulletin this evening said.

According to the bulletin VAYU moved west- northwestwards with a speed of about 05 kmph in the six hours prior to 1430 hrs this afternoon and lay centred near latitude 21.0°N and longitude 65.0°E over Northeast and adjoining northwest and Central Arabian Sea, about 490 km west-southwest of Porbandar (Gujarat), 450 km west-southwest of Dwarka (Gujarat) and 550 km west-southwest of Bhuj (Gujarat).

The system is very likely to weaken gradually into a Cyclonic Storm during next 12 hours and into a Deep Depression during subsequent 12 hours. The system is very likely to move slowly northwards during next 06 hours and then recurve gradually northeastwards and cross north Gujarat coast by midnight of 17th June 2019 as a Depression, the bulletin added.

Meanwhile spell of rain has somewhat subdued today although 30 talukas have seen light to moderate rain till 6 pm in the evening.

The temperatures across Gujarat has become moderate and likely to remain so during next 3 to 4 day, the bulletin added.

The met has also issued heavy rain warning for tomorrow and the day after as following –

June 17 – Heavy rains very likely at isolated places in the districts of Saurashtra-Kutch namely Porbandar, Devbhumi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Morbi and
Kutch.

June 18 : Heavy to very heavy rains very likely at isolated places in the districts of North Gujarat region namely Banaskantha, Sabarkantha; isolated
heavy rains in Patan, Mehsana, Aravalli; in the districts of Saurashtra-Kutch namely Kutch and Morbi.
