Heavy rain warning for Ahmedabad and other places for tomorrow

Gandhinagar: The met department has issued heavy rainfall warning for Ahmedabad also among other places for tomorrow under the influence of the well marked low pressure area (in to which the cyclone VAYU turned depression is to convert ).

According to the bulletin issued by the met here this evening heavy rains were very likely at isolated places in the districts of Saurashtra namely Morbi and Surendranagar; in the districts of Gujarat region namely Banaskantha, Patan, Sabarkantha, Mehsana, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar tomorrow.

Ahmedabad city has today seen light rain of average 3 mm till 8 pm and there was strong humidity in the atmosphere which might be a pre-cursor to heavy rain.

As per the bulletin the Deep Depression over northeast Arabian Sea and neighbourhood moved east-northeastwards with a speed of about 12 kmph in last six hours, weakened into a depression and lay centred at 1430 hrs today near latitude 22.2°N and longitude 67.4°E over Northeast Arabian Sea and neighbourhood, about 190 km west-southwest of Naliya (Gujarat), 175 km west-southwest of Dwarka (Gujarat) and 270 km west-southwest of Bhuj (Gujarat).

The system is very likely to weaken into a well marked low pressure area during next six hours and move towards north Gujarat coast.

By the evening 6 pm, as per the official data 58 talukas have witnessed rain across the state with maximum 29 mm in Borsad in central Gujarat despite the Heavy to very heavy rains warning for the day at isolated places in the districts of Saurashtra-Kutch namely Kutch, Dwarka, Jamnagar, Morbi, Surendranagar, Porbandar. Heavy rains very likely at isolated places in the districts of Gujarat region namely Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Anand, Navsari, Sura.

The low pressure area is likely to reach the northern coast in Gujarat by late night today or tomorrow.
