VAYU no more a cyclone, it will in capacity of well marked low pressure area bring rain to Kutch – Saurashtra – North Gujarat

Ahmedabad/Bhuj: The cyclone VAYU which had take a recurve and moving towards Gujarat coast is weakening very quickly and will soon become only a depression (earlier it had converted in to a deep depression) and in next few hours after that further weaken in to just a well marked low pressure area before it reaches the northern coast of this western state, IMD center Director Jayant Sarkar said today.

He also said that the wind speed will not be a danger but there could be spells of heavy to very heavy rain in some of the districts in Saurasthra-Kutch and North Gujarat.

‘When it would touch the Gujarat coast as a well marked low pressure, the associated wind speed would be 40 to 45 km per hour gusting up to 60kmph which was not dangerous. But there would be heavy to very heavy rain in Kutch, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Morbi etc and also in Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Patan and Mahesana districts of North Gujarat during today and tomorrow. Things will improve from June 19,’ he said.

Meanwhile in the wake of the possibility of heavy rain, the state government has deployed NDRF teams in Kutch and Banaskantha districts and some other adjoining places.

The weather has already changed with few spells of light to moderate in Kutch area. Till 2 pm in the afternoon today a total of 43 talukas have seen light to moderate rain. with Borsad in central Gujarat seeing highest of 29 mm or slightly over an inch. Mandavi in Kutch from close to which the low pressure area is to make entry has seen 8 mm of rain.

At 12 pm this noon, Vayu was as a deep depression was almost stationary at a distance of 235 km west-southwest from Naliya coast of Kutch district and Gujarat. It is likely to reach the coast as low pressure area by late night.
