Amid wait for re-activation of monsoon, met issues heavy rain warning for parts of South and Central Gujarat

Ahmedabad: The seemingly long wait for re-activation of monsoon is likely to end during next two days in parts of South and Central Gujarat region.

The met bulletin issued by IMD center here this evening has issued heavy rain warning for tomorrow and the day after. It would be caused by an upper air cyclonic circulation over East Central Arabian Sea off Maharashtra Coast extending from 3.1 to 3.6 km above mean sea level.

Notably, the state, which had seen good rains in the very first spell after somewhat late arrival of monsoon last month, is now desperately waiting for another such spell. During the last 24 hours ending at 6am today a total of 23 talukas in 14 districts had seen light to moderate rain with Rajkot seeing the highest 29 mm.

The state has so far seen 24.16% of the total seasonal rain. Kutch region has seen just 6.27%.

The heavy rain warning is as following –

July 20 :- Heavy rains very likely at isolated places in the districts of South Gujarat region namely Daman Dadara Nagar Haveli, Valsad, Navsari, Narmada, Chhota Udepur.

July 21 :- Heavy rains very likely at isolated places in the districts of South Gujarat region namely Daman Dadara Nagar Haveli, Valsad, Navsari, Narmada, Chhota Udepur.

The met bulletin has also predicted continued spells of light to moderate rainfall in some other parts of the state during next four days. The normal state forecast is as following –
