Rain continue to lash several parts of Gujarat, it is raining ‘gold’ for farmers

Ahmedabad: As a big respite to farmers and their parching fields, Rain is continuing to lash several parts of Gujarat.

From 6 to 10 am this morning, 89 talukas of 24 districts have seen rains with Lilia in Amreli district seeing the maximum of 71 mm. Lathi and Visavadar have received 63 mm each, Vallabhipur in Bhavnagar 51 mm, Umrala 42 mm , Amreli 49 mm and Bagasara 45 mm. In all 16 talukas have seen more than one inch of rain today.

With the rain many seasonal rivulets including Navali in Lilia area have received new water.

The met has predicted more spells of heavy rain today and tomorrow.

In the last 24 hours ending 6 am today, 118 talukas of 27 districts had seen rain with Nizer in Tapi and Surat city seeing the maximum of 83 mm each. Songadh and Uchchhal in Tapi saw 65 mm each while Umerpada in Surad district had seen 57 mm. In all 13 talukas had seen more than 2 inches of rain while 37 had seen it in excess of one inch.

This rain in agricultural belts of Saurashtra and South Gujarat is being termed as ‘gold’ by the farmers who were desperately waiting for a good spell of rain after they had sown crops during first spell of monsoon last month and early this month.

Meanwhile, rain has also caused some inconvenience to people in low lying urban areas. Rain water had been logged in civil hospital in Surat city while an old man identified as Bijal Parmar died due to drowning in a rain filled drain in Hadanagar area of Bhavnagar district.
