Gujarat govt. announces release of Narmada, Kadana water to needy areas for irrigation

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Dy CM Nitin Patel today announced State cabinet decision to release water of Narmada and Kadana projects to farmers in order to protect crops. He said more than 400 ponds linked to Narmada pipeline in North Gujarat will be filled with Narmada water. Similarly, Narmada water will also supplied to needy areas of Saurashtra through pumping for irrigation.
Irrigation water for command area of Mahi will be released from Kadana dam in order to save paddy crop. He added that government is already supplying 10-hour power for farm-sector instead of 8 as announced earlier.
Patel said that State government had alerted the administration in connection with forecast of heavy rain in the State in next four-five days period.
