Update: 7 councilors of Congress today joined BJP which makes number of Councillors of BJP and Congress equal in Congress-ruled Mahesana municipality at 22-each. Dy CM Nitin Patel said more Congress Councillors are going to join BJP.

Mahesana: There is a strong likelihood of Congress getting a jolt in Gujarat again even as several of its members in the party ruled municipality of Patidar bastion town of Mahesana were likely to revolt and join the ruling BJP.

A BJP leader here said that some of the party members including the chairman of municipality Ghanshyam Chavda were in touch with the saffron brigade and they might eventually join the party.

One of the Congress member also admitted that he and some of his colleagues would soon join BJP.

Notably, in the 44 member Mahesana Municipality ruling Congress has 29 members while opposition BJP has 15.

Speculations were rife that at least 8 members of Congress including Chavda were in touch with BJP.

One of the members of Congress said that even more members could resign from Congress.
