Kevadiya: Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam in this town of Narmada district in Central Gujarat has been decorated in the colours of the national flag before the Namami Devi Narmade Mahotsav event to mark the filling up of its reservoir, in which PM Narendra Modi will also remain present tomorrow on his birthday .

10-10 of the total 30 gates of the dam have been lighted with saffron, white and green lights and colours to give it the look of a giant tricolour. A large number of LED and laser lights have been used to decorate the dam which was filled up to the full reservoir level of 138.68 meter for the first time yesterday.

PM Modi is arriving Gujarat tonight to participate in the main event of Namami Devi Narmade Mahotsav here tomorrow.

The PM will also visit River Rafting, Jungle Safari Park, Butterfly Park, Ekta Nursery and pray at the Garudeshwar Temple and address a public gathering later. A number of events as a part of the festival have been organised at the district level in the presence of ministers of the state government.

The dam which supplies water to around 167 towns and 10000 villages in which more than 3 crore of over half of the population of Gujarat lives is the lifeline of water supply in the western state. The foundation of the dam was laid in April 1961 by the then PM Jawaharlal Nehru but it was completed after decades. PM Modi had during his first tenure given approval to install gates on the dam raising its height to the current level on completion of the process in September 2017.
