Extensive damage to crops due to excessive rain, will assist affected farmers: Dy CM Nitin Patel

Gandhinagar/Ahmedabad/Rajkot: Gujarat government today accepted that the excessive rain in the state this year has caused extensive damage to crops and proper assistance to the affected farmers would be given.

Dy CM cum finance minister said that the state has already seen over 140% rain and for the past few days also heavy rain in many parts was on.

‘The rivers, rivulets etc were all full and so the water logged in the agricultural fields was not receding causing damage to standing crops. The estimate of damage would be done and the report would be shared with the central government,’ he said.

‘We would seek assistance from the center under crop insurance scheme and other schemes as per the needs,’ he said.

Earlier Union MoS Agriculture Parshottam Rupala reiterated that it was not proper to term the situation as green famine (Lila Dukal in Gujarati).

‘We are constantly in touch with the state government. There has been damage to crops and the center would work shoulder to shoulder with the state to help them out,’ he said.

Meanhwile, former minister and Rajkot MP Mohan Kundariya has written a letter to CM Vijay Rupani demanding survey of the damage to the crops.
