Gujarat govt to set up international level snakebite research institute at Dharampur

Gandhinagar: Forest minister Ganpat Vasava speaking in snakebite management workshop in Gandhinagar, organized by Forestry Research Foundation, today said Gujarat will become second state in India to make anti-snake venom serum. At present, only such facility in India is located in Chennai in Tamil Nadu. Vasava while speaking in the workshop said the Chief Minister has decided to set up an international institute on snake-bite research for this purpose at Dharampur in Valsad district of South Gujarat. He said the State government officials will visit Chennai and set up an institute in Gujarat equipped with modern technology. He said, the world has 3500 species of snakes of which 350 are found in India and 52 in Gujarat.
