GSSSB exam issue : Chairman Vora says govt will take call whether to apply new qualification criteria from this exam or next one

Gandhinagar: Amid the confusion and chaos over the cancellation of the non-secretariat clerk and secretariat assistant class 3 recruitment examination to be conducted by the Gujarat Subordinate Service Selection Board (GSSSB) on October 20, the Chairman of the board Asit R Vora today said that the state government that makes the rules for recruitment would take a call on whether to apply the new minimum qualification criteria from this exam or the ones to be conducted after it.

Talking over phone Vora, who was outside Gujarat currently, said that the board was only a conducting authority of the exam and it has now powers to take any decision about the recruitment rules which were framed by the government.

‘ The General Administration Department has decided to raise the minimum qualification for the non secretariat clerk’s post from earlier class 12 to graduation. That for the secretariat assistants has not been changed. The next date for the exam is also yet to be decided, now the government would take a call on whether to apply the new qualification criteria from this exam whenever re-conducted or from the recruitment to be held after it,’ he said.

Vora said that for the exam which has been cancelled now was for around 3800 posts of which majority was of non-secretariat clerks and only around 270 was for assistants. The clerks would be posted across the state while the secretariat assistants would be posted in the secretariat in capital Gandhinagar only.

He also added that it was not yet clear as to why the government has decided to cancel the examination.

Notably, a lot of confusion has been created due to sudden cancellation of the exam.

The exam was to be held on October 20 and around 10.50 lakh candidates were to appear in it at centers across the state. Interestingly the exam originally announced months ago was earlier also cancelled twice.
