Chandni Padvo: SUMUL exports 1200 kg Ghari sweets for Surtis settled abroad

Surat: South Gujarat headquartered SUMUL dairy has exported 1200 kg Ghari sweets for Surtis settled abroad ahead of Chandni Padva festival which is celebrated only in Surat and by the people of Surat settled anywhere in the world a day after Sharad Poornima every year.

Surtis settled abroad mostly in America and Dubai have ordered Ghari from SUMUL dairy. According to dairy officials, the boxes of Ghari sweets were dispatched well in advance so that Ghari sweets can be consumed on Chandni Padva day.

Chandni Padva is the day after Sharad Purnima. Lakhs of citizens of Surat city consume tonnes of Ghari sweets along with Bhusu on Chandni Padva evening. Many of them choose to seat in open, even on footpaths of certain roads and consume Ghari.

As per an estimate Surtis consume 140 tonne Ghari on Chandni Padva day. As per Manish Bhatt, marketing manager of South Gujarat’s largest SUMUL dair, SUMUl had sold 80 tonne Ghari in year 2018 on the occasion of Chandni Padva. This year, in last three days, 72 tonne Ghari has been sold.

Ghari sweet is made of Ghee, milk and badam pista. The price of Ghari this year is in range of Rs. 550 to Rs. 700 per Kg.

SUMUL has also received 5 tonne order for sugar-free Ghari this year.
