Amit Shah’s son Jay Shah elected BCCI secretary unopposed

New Delhi: Union Home Minister, ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s national president and Gandhinagar Lok Sabha MP Amit Shah’s son Jay Shah was unopposed elected as the secretaryof the Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) while MoS in Centre and BJP MP from Himachal Pradesh Anurag Thakur’s brother Arun Dhumal became treasurer.

Former cricketer Sourav Ganguly has become a new President of the board for a period of 10 months replacing CK Khanna, acting BCCI President.

Brijesh Patel is new IPL chairman.

October 14 is the last date to file the nominations for BCCI elections which is scheduled to take place on October 23. However all the posts are declared filled unopposed.

Jay Shah is set to become the youngest Secretary of BCCI. Jay has served for the past 6 years as the Secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA). He has been involved with the new world’s largest cricket stadium coming up at Motera in Ahmedabad from the time the old stadium was demolished till a few weeks’ back when he stepped down from his post at GCA. Motera stadium work was 90% complete by then. During his tenure at GCA, Gujarat’s team has won several national tournaments like Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare One-Day Tournament, and Syed Mushtaq Ali T-20 Tournament.

Commenting on this development, Vice President of Gujarat Cricket Association Dhanraj Nathwani in his Facebook post said: I wish all the very best to Shri Jay Shah as he is set to play a much bigger role as the new General Secretary at BCCI after a very successful stint as Joint Secretary at Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA). At GCA, Jay played a prominent role in the setting up of the world’s largest cricket stadium at Motera in Ahmedabad as well as promoting cricket at all levels in the state.Now at BCCI, he will promote cricket across all states of India and play a key role in ensuring that India remains a dominant player in all formats, whether it be test, one day or T-20 matches. Also, being from Gujarat, he will ensure that cricket in the state grows even further with additional support from the BCCI.

On October 10, it was reported that the BCCI had barred eight state units out of the 38 from attending the Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held here on October 23.

In the AGM meeting, Ganguly will represent the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), while Rajat Sharma and Mohammed Azharuddin will attend as the representatives of Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) and Hyderabad Cricket Association, respectively.

The affiliated units of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) met in Mumbai on Sunday, to decide on who will be the new office bearers of the board. The meeting went on late into the night.

The post of President is considered the top post while Secretary works as President’s deputy post the era of the Committee of Administrators (CoA).

The likes of Arun Dhumal, Jayesh George and Prabhtej Patel could be handed the other hot seats in what will be a fresh start for the BCCI office bearers after the CoA hands over power on October 23.

While the likes of Anurag Thakur, N. Srinivasan, Sourav Ganguly, Rajeev Shukla and Niranjan Shah met in the capital, a few senior members who will be representing their associations in the BCCI elections held their own closed door meeting in Mumbai.
