Govt not to take any decision that adversely affects milk producers: Piyush Goyal to Amul on RCEP concerns

Anand: The Kaira District Co-operative Milk Producers Union Limited, popularly known as Amul Dairy on Friday celebrated its 74th Foundation Day and 144th birth anniversary of Shri Sardar Patel whose vision had led to the establishment of Amul Dairy in 1946.

A function organized to mark the day at Amul Dairy’s Sardar Patel Hall presided over Amul Dairy’s chairman Shri Ramsinh Parmar in presence of Managing Director of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), Dr R S Sodhi, as chief guest.

More than three thousand people including milk producers, cooperative leaders and other dignitaries attended the function.

On the occasion, Chairman, GCMMF & Amul Dairy Shri Ramsinh Parmar talked about contributions of visionaries like Shri Sardar Patel, Tribhuvandas Patel, Dr. Verghese Kurien and Shri Dalaya. “The foundation laid by the great visionaries has helped Amul to grow from small organization to an institution which is continuously studied by people from all walks of life from all over the world. He has also briefed about various steps being taken by Amul Dairy for modernization and expansion of dairy in view of increasing market demand and assured a bright future for Amul and best returns to the milk producers, in spite of tough conditions.

Addressing the milk producer members Dr. R S Sodhi conveyed his happiness to be with the farmer members who are the backbone of Amul. It was evident his 38 years of long in depth experience in speech when Dr Sodhi talked to thousands of milk producers regarding past, present and future of dairying in India.

He talked in detail on RCEP (Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership) agreement between 16 countries of Asia, including India and its threat to dairy farmers. All milk producers were very keen to further understand it and its outcome. He recollected yesterday’s discussion with the Commerce Minister Shri Piyush Goyal on RCEP and as conveyed to him by minister that Government will not take any decision that will adversely affect the milk producers of this country. The news was well received by the milk producer members with continuous applause expressing their gratitude.

Dr Sodhi assured the farmers that Amul shall able to give more remunerative price for the milk in the coming years. Looking to the market demand, he requested farmers to increase milk production by engaging high genetic merit milch animals. He also urged the farmers especially the new generation youth to adopt self-startup in dairy farming. Starting Dairy Farms with 25 to 30 high yielding animals with using high pedigree semen, good quality feed and green & dry fodder so as to address unemployment issues and regular income at their villages itself.

Shri Rajendrasinh Parmar, Vice Chairman of Amul Dairy in his vote of thanks, expressed his gratitude to Dr Sodhi accepting our invitation to be Chief Guest of the celebration and addressed the thousands of milk producer members attended the function. He also thanked the farmers’ members for their cooperation and hard work to make Amul a great organization.
