Centre approves Rs. 87.48 crore for irrigation in Dang district of Gujarat

Gandhinagar: The Government of India has given approval to dig 2512 irrigation wellsat a cost of Rs. 97.48 crore under Pradhanmantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana in Dang district of South Gujarat.
The State government had moved a proposal in this regard to the Centre, according to which the estimated cost of entire project was Rs. 163.29 crore in 60:40 Centre:State ratio. Accordingly the Centre has allocated Rs. 97.48 crore to Gujarat.
As per the project details, as many as 2512 wells are to be created in Ahwa taluka of Dang district. The project has also provision of 628 solar pumps and 1884 electric pumps to supply water to the fields.
According to a note issued by the State government, the project will cover 3,768 hectare area under irrigation and benefit 3655 tribal farmers.
The Government of India has released Rs. 58.48 crore to water resources department of Gujarat government in first installment.
