New Delhi: Under Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) projects, the Government has planned new mobile towers at 70 locations in the State of Gujarat for installation of Base Transceiver Stations(BTSs) for mobile service connectivity of uncovered villages.
The number of operational BTS in State of Gujarat as on 20th November, 2019 is 1,34,852 (2G -29199 Nos., 3G -17920 Nos. and 4G-LTEs 87733 Nos.) at 34,627 mobile tower locations.
The number of BTSs are by and large sufficient to cater to the population of Gujarat. However, Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) install additional BTS to further improve coverage and/or capacity of their networks based on their techno-commercial requirements on continuous basis.
These details were shared by minister of communications Ravi Shankar Prasad in reply to Gujarat MP Jaswant Singh Bhabhor’s question.
