ATM in Vadodara dispensing Rs 500 on entering Rs 100 shut, crowd in front of it was removed by police

Vadodara: A bank ATM in Vadodara city of Central Gujarat which started dispensing Rs 500 notes instead of Rs 100 due to technical fault today was shut after a large crowd gathered near it to withdraw money.

The private sector ICICI bank which had installed the ATM in Yugpurush Complex near Vadsar bridge in the city was investing the matter after closing it.

Police said that after noticing that the ATM was dispensing more cash than the amount entered and deducted in the message/slip received later. A rumour started doing the round soon that the ATM was dispensing double the amount entered without deducting as much from the account. A large crowd gathered and started withdrawing from it.

Later the bank officials and employees of the cash loading company rushed to the spot with police and shut the ATM down.

It was later noticed that the ATM due to technical fault was dispensing Rs 500 notes even though Rs 100 was entered.

Police said that the data from the machine was being recovered and the CCTV footage would also be checked to see how much of excess amount has been withdrawn by whom.
