Japan’s S. B. Energy corp to invest Rs 30000 crore in Gujarat for energy generation using non- conventional sources

Gandhinagar: Japan’s S. B. Energy corp, part of Soft Bank Group today said that it would invest US $ 4 billion (approximately Rs 30,000 crore) in non-conventional power generation sector in Gujarat.

Executive Chairman of the company Manoj Kohli, who recently had a meeting with Chief Minister Vijay Rupani here, said that the company would make investment worth $ 4 billion in non-conventional power generation sector in Gujarat. The Soft Bank group would make a total investment worth of $ 11 billion in India of which $4 billion would be in Gujarat alone.

The decision of the company was based on Gujarat’s impressive image created by the state government’s efforts to generate energy through non-conventional sources such as Solar, Wind, and others to protect the environment, an official release said here today.

In the coming years, Gujarat wants to enhance its power generation capacity remarkably using solar and wind resources that would not just meet the requirement of Gujarat alone, but also of other states of the country.

At present, Gujarat’s installed power generation capacity using the renewable energy is 8885 MW. A proper planning has been made with ‘Hybrid Policy’ to enhance Gujarat’s energy generation capacity to 30,000 mw by year-2022. Of this, around 20,000 mw would be utilized in Gujarat, while remaining 10,000 mw would be given to other states of the country.

This whopping investment to be made by S. B. Energy Soft Bank Group would make Gujarat a “hub of renewable energy”.The state government, under the leadership of CM Rupani, is determined to optimize the utilization of solar energy in MSME sector as well in domestic usage through solar roof-top technology. For this purpose, nearly 200,000
families would be covered under ‘Solar Roof-top Energy’ scheme in Gujarat, the release said.
