CAB Chhapi violence: ‘Mob of 3000 unidentified Muslims’ booked, 22 accused named in FIR

Palanpur: Chhapi police station in Banaskantha district of North Gujarat has filed a complaint against 3,000 strong mob of Muslim community under sections 143, 147, 149, 308, 152, 153, 120B, 336, 353, 427, 506(2), 341 and section 3 of the Public Property Damage Act.

Complainant LP Rana, police inspector of Chhapi police station has idenfitied and named 22 persons as accused. They are Amarnath Vasava, Satish Vansola(both who sought permission for the programme), Abdul Hakk, Yasin Bahglawala, Shafik Nandoliya, Mohsin Dodiya, Faizan Mathiya, Abdul Rahim Patel alias Rasheed Malai Rah, Basan Shahid Samat, Ilyas Allauddin Nedariya, Farish Tailer’s brother, Harun Ranasariya, Abdul Salam (Apsara Hotel fame), Shahad Ismail Luchhiya, Munaf Dhukka, Shahad Zala, Israil Nedariya, Shafik Mumab, Alfaf Nedariya, Faizan Marediya, Zakir Vaisara and Zahir Aabbas Marediya Rah.

According to police complaint, the accused had sought permission from police to hold a function to mark martyrdom of freedom fighters Ashfaqulla Khan and Ram Prasad Bismil and conspired to hold protest in the garb of this function against the Citizenship Amendment Act, however their application to hold this function was rejected.

Inspite of this, they continued with their plans, gathered illegally and pelted stones over the State Transport bus and caused damage. They also forced to turn a police jeep upside down. This could kill the policemen inside the jeep. The accused also issued threat to a driver of Chhapi police station vehicle and blocked a road. The accused breached the order of executive magistrate and damaged government property.

According to complaint draft, a mob of Muslims at around 10.00 am gheraoed a police prisoner van and police bolero jeep and attacked the jeep with sticks and stones due to which its rear glass was broken. A police jeep driver was told by Abdul Salam and others that he would be killed if his vehicle goes ahead. Attempt to force a jeep upside down was made by mob and it continued till other police men came there and intervened. The mob also forced release of three accused who were held by police and kept in prisoner van.

Accused also stopped a State Transport bus on Shankheshwar – Ambaji route and pelted stone over it to cause damage to its windows.
