400 MLD water purified at Sewage Treatment Plant at Ahmedabad to be used for irrigation through Fatehwadi Canal

Gandhinagar (press release): Chief Minister Mr. Vijaybhai Rupani today called on the farmers of Gujarat to take full advantage of occurrence of ample rainfalls in the last monsoon in the state to produce maximum farm produces and provide a new direction to the nation.

In this reference, the Chief Minister thanked the god for making adequate rainfall in Gujarat to resolve its water crisis. He was speaking at a function organized to dedicate to the people a sewage water purification plant setup near Fatehwadi Canal in Ahmedabad city to reuse it for irrigation.

The State Water Resources department in its new initiative set up at a cost of Rs. One-crore is intended to supply 400 MLD purified water to Daskroi, Sanand, Bavla, and Dholka tehsil of Ahmedabad for irrigation. This scheme would approximately provide irrigation waters to nearly 12,000 hectare of land and increase the farmers’ income by Rs. 80-Cr. Now, the irrigation facility based on Fatehwadi Canal has touched the mark of 33,000 hectare.

Mr. Rupani categorically stated that through Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) nearly 70 % water would be reused in major cities of the state by year 2022.

Following the footsteps of Prime Minister Mr. Narendrabhai Modi in his campaign ‘Nal Se Jal’ to supply drinking water to the citizens of the country, Gujarat would take frontal position in this campaign by providing tap water to every house, Mr. Rupani added.

Others, who spoke at the function, included Gujarat Education Minister Mr. Bhupendrasinh Chudasama. The event was also graced by Mr. M. K. Jadav – Secretary of Narmada, Water Resources & Water Supply Dept., Collector Mr. K. K. Nirala, District Development Officer Mr. Mahesh Babu, and Mrs. Bijalben Patel – Ahmedabad City Mayor, AMC Commissioner Mr. Vijay Nehra, and others.
