BJP wins 29 of 33 taluka and district panchayat seats in by-polls; CM says it’s a glimpse of upcoming panchayat polls

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today hailed party’s big victory on 29 out of total 33 taluka panchayat and district panchayat seats, where by-polls were held on December 29.

While the BJP has won 29 of 33 seats, Congress has won 3 and others 1 in by-polls, counting for which took place today.

The Chief Minister in a tweet, thanked the people and party workers for BJP’s grand victory. He said this election victory is a glimpse of upcoming taluka panchayat and district panchayat polls (likely to be held in the last quarter of next year).

It’s worth noting that previously BJP had 14 while Congress had 18 seats out of the total seats, results of which are declared today.

State Election Commission of Gujarat had announced election programme for 3 vacant seats of 2 district panchayats and 41 vacant seatsof 31 taluka panchayats on 2nd December this year. Later as per the order of the Gujarat High Court, by-polls on 7 seats were postponed, while no nomination form was filed in another 4 seats. BJP candidates had won 3 seats uncontested in taluka panchayat by-polls of Poshina and Sutrapada.

Polling was held peacefully. In all, the district panchayat by-polls had witnessed 41.16% polling while taluka panchayat by-polls witnessed 60.12% polling. Counting was held today.
