Clash between ABVP and NSUI workers in Ahmedabad over NSUI protest programme at Gujarat ABVP headquarters

Ahmedabad: A clash between RSS students wing ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) and Congress students wing NSUI (National Student Union of India) students ensued in Paldi area here today when the workers of the student’s wing of Congress were going for a protest at the state headquarters of ABVP today over the issue of violence in JNU.

NSUI had given a call of protest at State ABVP headquarters Shri Lekha bhavan in Paldi area yesterday and related post was circulated over whatsapp.

ABVP leaders claimed that NSUI workers under the leadership of Congress leaders Shahnawaz Sheikh and Subhan Saiyad planned gathering at State Congress headquarters in Paldi area and then walked to State headquarters of ABVP located nearby. They tried to manhandle ABVP workers, pelted stone and also tried to damage the vehicles outside the ABVP office. ABVP also claims that two of its workers were injured due to NSUI attack. ABVP said its cadre Pandya suffered fracture injury while two other workers were also injured.

However Congress leaders denied this claim and said Congress workers gathered on the main road of Paldi and not in front of ABVP headquarters.

ABVP later in a press conference showed copy of a message circulated by NSUI yesterday giving call to gather at ABVP office.

It is learnt that ABVP workers chased away NSUI workers. ABVP spokesperson Samarth Bhatt said, full video of sequence should be checked, NSUI goons first pelted stone and also hit ABVP workers with sticks.

BJP youth wing Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) State president Rutvij Patel was also seen on the spot when ABVP cadres were chasing away NSUI workers and manhandling them even by using stick. Patel was seen trying to stop ABVP workers beating up NSUI workers in a viral video clip. Patel said that he also condemn any kind of violence.

ABVP said its cadres were present at its state headquarters as they were to go to Gujarat University to congratulate the Vice Chancellor for declaring senate election after interval of many years.

ABVP showed broken window glass of State headquarters. Samarth Bhatt said ABVP had not expected attack on its headquarters and therefore police bandobast was not too much. He said ABVP runs a reading library located next to its headquarters and students reading inside had to leave the place following attack.

Meanwhile, Nikhil Sawani, NSUI leader and Hardik Patel loyalist was bleeding due to stick attack and hospitalized. Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi said four NSUI workers were under medical treatment.

NSUI leader claimed that ABVP and BJYM leaders had gathered with swords and sticks to beat up NSUI cadres. Police also joined them in beating up NSUI workers. NSUI will demand case against attackers under IPC section 307.

ABVP on the other hand refuted these claims and said NSUI had even not sought permission to hold protest programme and its assembly itself was illegal. ABVP media coordinator Bhatt said, ‘what would you do if someone come to your place to attack. If them come again, they will face same welcoming. On one hand NSUI complain about constitution in danger, on the other hand they don’t seek police permission to stage protest which is provisioned under constitution.’
