Gujarat govt announces assistance to the locust attack affected farmers of North Gujarat

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government today announced the monetary assistance for the farmers in the wake of recent locust attacks in North Gujarat.
Agriculture Minister R C Faldu today said that during the survey to estimate the damage it has come to fore that in a total of 285 villages in 15 talukas of the two districts Banaskantha and Patan the crops, mainly of castor seed and cumin seed were damaged. Of these 280 villages were in 13 talukas of Banaskantha and remaining 5 in two talukas of Patan district.
The damage of crops was in 24472 hectares in Banaskantha and 750 hectares in Patan. He said that a total of Rs 31.50 crores of relief money would be paid to around 11 thousand affected farmers in the two districts. They would be paid Rs 18,500/- per hectare in the maximum limit of up to two hectares.
