SPV to be formed to execute Tapi Riverfront project in Surat

Surat: A 13-member Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) is likely to be formed for Tapi river front project which is going to be executed at an estimated cost of Rs. 3904 crore. Government nominated director will become chairman of this body while SMC commissioner will be its managing director. There will be total 13 directors including Mayor, Collector, Dy Mayor, SUDA chairman SMC standing committee chairman, city engineer of SMC, dy Commissioner (Roads), Dy Commissioner (Finance), superintendent engineer of Surat irrigation circle, SMC commissioner and one independent director authorized by Mayor.
The project will involve 52 running km in Tapi bank area and 14 running km in SUDA area, which means 78% portion in SMC area and 22% in SUDA area.
In-principal approval to this project has already been given. The project will include Rudh to Kamrej river bank area totaling 66 km(33 km on each side). Water transport, gardens, amusement park, development of religious places – Rs. 3718 crore net and 3904 crore gross estimates are approved.
