Coast Guard rescues distressed fishing boat with 5 fishermen aboard off Gujarat coast

Gandhinagar: The Indian Coast Guard has rescued a distressed fishing boat with five fishermen aboard off Porbandar coast of Gujarat.
A coast guard official today said that a distress call was received at Coast Guard Remote Operating Station Porbandar at about 0730 hrs yesterday from fishing boat Subhamurti with 05 fishermen regarding flooding onboard. It was about 45 nautical miles at sea from Porbandar. The fishing boat was fishing alone and there were no other boat in vicinity to provide assistance. A merchant ship MV Rahi which was in vicinity was diverted by Coast Guard to assist the distressed boat and Coast Guard ship C-143 was immediately sailed from Porbandar to render assistance.
On arriving the datum, technical team of ICGS C-143 assessed the situation and arrested flooding by submersible pumps. Later, the team attended repairs. The boat was then directed to proceed to Porbandar harbour. The boat safely entered Porbandar harbour at 2030hrs last night. A timely assistance by Indian Coast Guard thus saved five precious lives at sea, he said.
