Locusts have left Gujarat completely due to wind pattern: DAO

Palanpur: The innumerous locusts that had entered at least 3 villages of Vav Taluka in Banaskantha district of Gujarat have now completely returned to Rajasthan due to wind pattern, District Agriculture Officer (DAO) P K Patel today said.
He said that the locusts swarmed towards Rajasthan, in the noon yesterday from where they had made repeat entry in Gujarat 3-4 days back.
‘Now they have gone out of the boundries of Gujarat. They have now entered Rajasthan and might further move toward Pakistan if the same wind pattern continues,’ he said.
Patel said that Mavsari, Radha Nesda and Kundariya villages had been affected by recent locust attacks. The tune of damage to crops in these three villages would be assessed.
Notably the Gujarat government had earlier this month (on January 7) announced an assistance of Rs 31.50 crore to around 11 thousand farmers for damage to crops due to the Locust attack that had started from December 14 and lasted for around two weeks, in a total of 285 villages in 15 talukas of the two districts Banaskantha and Patan. The crops, mainly of castor seed and cumin seed were damaged. Of these 280 villages were in 13 talukas of Banaskantha and remaining 5 in two talukas of Patan district.
