Indian coast guard conducts maritime search and rescue exercise Re-SAREX- 2020 on Gujarat coast

Porbandar: The Indian Coast Guard conducted Regional Level Search and Rescue exercise (RE-SAREX-2020) on and off the sea along Gujarat coast for two day ending today to check preparedness and response of stake holders during search and rescue at sea in a coordinated manner.

Regional Public Relation Officer, Headquarter Coast Guard Region (NW), Gandhinagar, Commandant H K Ahuja today said that the event started with workshop and table top exercise yesterday followed by simulated exercises at sea today. Mass Rescue exercises simulating aircraft crash at sea and fire onboard fishing boat was planned and coordinated witnessing response by 6 ICG ships, 2 ICG aircraft, 1 IAF Mi-17 helicopter, 1 Indian Navy Ship and 1 Marine Police boat.

Procedures of distress communication mechanism, rescue techniques, fire fighting and rescue capabilities of Indian resource agencies besides commitment to safety of life in distress at sea were controlled from Maritime Rescue Sub Center (MRSC) Porbandar.

Inspector General Rakesh Pal, PTM, TM, Commander Coast Guard Region (NW) reviewed the event. Delegates from Indian Navy, Port authorities, Fisheries department, ISRO, district administration, Disaster management, VTMS.

and Marine Police participated. During the workshop matters relating to Maritime Search and Rescue were deliberated towards robust mechanism. Reviewing officer steered the discussion of multi-dimensional issue of maritime search and rescue reiterating regular interaction and coordination amongst stake holders to gain synergized efforts and confidence amongst the sea farers in ensuring safety of life at sea, Ahuja said.
