Gujarat Congress MLAs join controversial Shahin Bagh protest in Delhi; State BJP slams Congress in strong words

Ahmedabad: Two Gujarat Congress MLAs, Gyasuddin Shaikh and Imran Khedawala yesterday traveled to Delhi and participated in controversial Shahin Bagh protests there yesterday. Shaikh is elected from Shahpur assembly constituency in Ahmedabad. Khedawala is MLA from Jamalpur seat of city. Both MLAs also held meeting with former union minister and Congress leader Salman Khurshid and with Khurshid, visited the protest site at Khureji near Turkman Gate too. Gyasuddin addressed protesters at Shahin Bagh and Khureji. Khedawala addressed protesters at Shahin Bagh. Both MLAs returned from Delhi today.

Slamming both MLAs, Gujarat BJP spokesperson Bharat Pandya told media persons, ‘What message the leaders of Gujarat Congress wish to convey by going to Shahin Bagh which has become an anti-India den, where anti-national, divisive and provocative speeches are delivered with intention to break India. Some time ago we witnessed brutal attack on police by stone pelting rioters in Shah Alam area of Ahmedabad. From Shah Alam to Shahi Bagh, what message Congress leaders want to give?’

Pandya said, ‘this is not culture of Gujarat. Gujarat believes in peace, unity, social equality and development. Against this, Congress culture is well known. Congress leaders had reached JNU where anniversary of terrorist was being marked. Congress leaders now also reach Shahin Bagh where anti India, breaking India speeches are going on.’

Pandya further said that Congress should not spread misunderstanding regarding Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). No Indian citizen is going to be impacted by CAA. It is only about granting citizenship to oppressed minority members from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

Slamming both MLAs, State BJP chief Jitu Vaghani said, ‘it’s a shameful day for Gujarat. Sharjeel Imam is arrested for anti-national activity. Due to illegal and unconstitutional Shahin Bagh dharna, people of Delhi are compelled to use alternative roads. Those who support tukde tukde gang, those who want Afzal to born in every home, those who shout ‘Afzal hum sharminda hain, tere qatil zinda hain’, for the sake of minority vote bank, two MLAs of Gujarat Congress reach Shahin Bagh to extend support to them. I want to ask Gujarat Congress people, whom do they support? Tukde tukde people? Those who say don’t buy from Reliance, Baba Ramdev and Hindu shops? Those who speak about breaking spine of Hindus? Those who say, don’t buy things from Hindu shops? Such were the things uttered in speeches at Shahin Bagh! Gujarat Congress MLAs have gone there and extended their support. Gujarat Congress MLAs have gone there to support them.’

‘We know those sitting there in Shahin Bagh in the name of protecting constitution. Which type of constitution is this? Blocking roads? Chanting anti national slogans? Expressing such anti national mentality? Extending support to tukde tukde gang? If Gujarat congress is extending support to them, its shameful.

Commenting on bandh call being observed by portion of Muslims in minority populated areas today, Vaghanai said, ‘BJP has asked to keep shops and markets open today. In the name of faith and religion, police is targeted, a police sub inspector was attacked with stone today. Police is targeted under a plan. Police is for your security. Those who have given bandh call are supported by Congress. Imagine if Congress was in power, how others could live here?’
