Coast Guard nabs boat off Gujarat coast with 9 crew for mid-sea theft in scrapped foreign ship

Porbandar: The Indian Coast Guard today apprehended a fishing boat with 9 crews for allegedly being involved in a mid-sea theft in a dead foreign ship being towed to Alang ship-breaking yard in Gujarat.

Defence PRO today said that in a swift sea operation at 0730 hours today while responding to call for help, Indian Coast Guard ship C-419 apprehended an Indian fishing boat Kirmani with 09 crews including 02 of the crew hiding on a dead vessel namely MT Morbius (AL Marzouqah) under tow by tug Allianz Titanium to Alang. The incident was reported at 08 miles from Navabandar port in Gujarat, where boarding party from ICG ship reached in short span and boarded the dead vessel apprehending miscreants who were handed over to Marine Police at Pipavav.

The apprehended crew is being interrogated by the District Police authorities and punitive action against them will surely bring deterrence to stop such activities, he said.
