Screening of international travelers re-intensified at SVPI airport in Gujarat

Ahmedabad: After finding of the two confirmed cases of Corona virus (COVID-19) in two people in Delhi and Telangana, who had returned from Italy and Dubai, the authorities in Gujarat have re-intensified its screening operation at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

An official in the health department said that screening of the travelers has been intensified with special focus on those returning with flu like symptoms from 13 identified countries including China, Italy, Iran, Iraq and other South East Asian nations. ‘Anyone with slightest sign of flu would be kept in quarantine,’ he added.

Notably over 1000 people from Novel Corona Virus affected China have returned to Gujarat so far since January this year but so far no positive case has been reported.

The state machinery to deal with any situation and also for the precautionary measures has been on alert since long.

Special isolation wards have been prepared and testing facility has been added in civil hospital here.

Last month a central team had visited Gujarat and inspected the screening preparations at the airport in Ahmedabad and also visited the civil hospital to see the isolation ward that has been prepared as part of precautionary measures. The members of the team were apprised about the appropriated availability of equipment and things like ventilators, masks, kits etc to deal with any eventuality. The team had expressed satisfaction over the measures. The state health department had also given awareness tips to the health workers till the village and panchayat level.

But due to the finding of the confirmed cases in Delhi and Telangana today, the state machinery has become even more alert now.

The corona virus infection has symptoms like normal flu but due to mutation of the virus it has become somewhat deadly.
