March 11, 2020
Statue of Unity: The visitors to Statue of Unity, the tallest statue in the world will also be able to enjoy ferry cruise ride. Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Central Gujarat is likely to inaugurate this attraction on March 21. Testing of cruise boat was done today in downstream area of Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam, for which water was released from upstream. It is learnt that the cruise ferry boat will be operated in 6 km area starting from Garudeshwar. Tribal dance and music will be performed on board for entertainment of tourists during around 4-hour long ride. The boat will have 200-seat capacity. Food will offered on board to tourists. Likely ticket rate will be around Rs. 300. A jetty to operate this boat has been built at Bharat Bhavan. Middle portion of Gora bridge over river Narmada has been demolished in order to operate the ferry boat service. An alternative new bridge has been constructed nearby which is 25 meter higher. This would provide all weather transport facility for people living on both sides of river Narmada, as lower and older Gora bridge would submerge during monsoons, but new higher located bridge will not submerge.
