Coronavirus: Fake outrage maker on social media exposed by SVPI airport

Ahmedabad: On March 21st, during the afternoon, a young male namely Abhimanyu Acharya through his twitter handle @Abhimanyu2409 tweeted that he arrived in a flight from Toronto in Canada to SVPI airport in Ahmedabad and he underwent no thermal check and he was just asked to fill a form and told to stay home-quarantined. The tweet is now unavailable.

Abhimanyu in subsequent tweet said: Just thought i should bring this to the attention of the officials, for everyone’s collective safety. Hoping for proper action.

No need to say, several people including some journalists started outrage over this set of couple of tweets and without fact check started questioning and criticizing the administration for lethargy.

Some media persons in reply to Abhimanyu’s tweet asked for his contact details to make news stories.

Later in a tweet, Abhimanyu tweeted: Some are also trying to politicize the issue unnecessarily. As responsible citizen, it was my duty to draw attention of the govt. officials, and they will handle it from here on. I am in isolation of course, and will be supportive of everything that health officials need from me.

Within some time, official twitter handle of Airports Authority of India, SVPI Airport, Ahmedabad tweeted CCTV video footage of Abhimanyu’s infrared thermal scan at Ahmedabad airport and exposed fake outrage started by him and joined by some others including journos.

The airport in its subsequent tweet said: Mr. Abhimanyu: Airport officials are putting their lives on risk to support the Society. Your statement is inappropriate and hurting. You deplaned on EY288 today at 0244 hrs & Infrared Thermal scanned at 0248 hrs. Please do not spread panic in Society and be a responsible citizen.

SVPI airport also tweeted a picture of Abhimanyu’s self reporting form with his signature.

Soon Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) commissioner Vijay Nehra in a tweet said: I have directed health officials to take appropriate legal action against this individual.

No need to say that Abhimanyu’s tweet in which he had started outrage went unavailable.

Worth noting that a small time Gujarati film actress namely Netri Trivedi had in reply to Abhimanyu’s outrage tweet said: Landed at international airport today and saw the same shit! Not even a simple temperature scan!!

However, later when the airport started tweeting CCTV footage to bust Abhimanyu’s fake outrage, Netri deleted her tweet.

Alert citizens on twitter, nevertheless put on a screenshot of her tweet and demanded action against her.

Meanwhile, putting an end to controversy, Abhimanyu in his tweet said: It seemed to me that it was simple eye check up. Thank you for sharing the footage and clarifying. I apologize for my earlier tweet. I will be more careful. Wishing good health to all. I am and will be in isolation for two weeks.
