Gujarat govt announces 16 paisa/unit relief in power tariff

Gandhinagar: The Government of Gujarat has announced Rs. 310 crore relief to over 1.30 crore power consumers in the State through 16 paise per unit cut in fuel surcharge levied by State owned power companies in electricity bills.
According to Power minister Saurabh Patel, ‘as per the formula decided by Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Authority, per unit Rs. 2.06 paise fuel surcharge was levied during January – March 2020 period, against which in April – June 2020 period saw levy of Rs. 1.90 per unit. Cut of 16 paise per unit would result into Rs. 310 crore relief to power consumers. Cheaper gas and more gas based power generation is responsible for this cut.’
