Nehra under self-quarantine; Mukesh Kumar given his charge, Rajiv Gupta in supervision role

Gandhinagar: Vijay Nehra, Commissioner of Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to go for self-quarantine for two weeks as he came into close contact of Covid19 positive person. Mukesh Kumar, CEO of Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) has been given the charge of city municipal commissioner in absence of Vijay Nehra. This has been communicated by the State government today.

Mukesh Kumar has in recent years worked as a city Municipal Commissioner of Ahmedabad.

Dr. Rajiv Gupta, ACS Forest and Environment department, Govt of Gujarat has been appointed for supervision, coordination and monitoring of all Covid19 related actions by AMC.

Both Rajiv Gupta and Mukesh Kumar were recently handed over the task to supervise, coordinate and monitor the entire Covid19 related plans and actions in capital Gandhinagar by the Chief Minister.

ACS Pankaj Kumar meanwhile has been appointed for coordination, supervision and monitoring of Covid19 related actions statewide. Pankaj Kumar is already looking after a dedciated Covid hospital in Civil hospital campus, Asarwa.

In her daily evening briefing, Principal Secretary, Health, Govt of Gujarat, Dr. Jayanti Ravi said Mukesh Kumar has taken over as Commissioner, AMC in-charge. She also said that Chief Secretary Anil Mukim and chief principal secretary to the chief minister Vijay Rupani Mr. K. Kailashnathan visited Ahmedabad and held a meeting with AMC officials.

Official communication stated: CM Mr Vijay Rupani instructed Chief Secretary Mr Anil Mukim, CPS to CM Mr K Kailasnathan, OSD Mr Rajiv Kumar Gupta and Municipal Commissioner Mr Mukesh Kumar to immediately take stock of the situation with all deputy municipal commissioners and report back.
These senior officers are conducting review meeting at Riverfront office of AMC with Dy MCs.
It’s worth mentioning that while orders were issued around 6 pm today, these officers have rushed to the field under instructions of CM Mr Rupani and have already started working in Ahmedabad. CM earlier said that Ahmedabad is going to be his top priority and the team led by Mr Rajiv Gupta and Mr Mukesh Kumar will work for controlling the spread of Covid19 in new areas of Ahmedabad.

Out of total 6245 Covid19 cases in Gujarat today evening, 4425 cases are only from Ahmedabad. The city of Ahmedabad has witnessed 273 Covid19 related deaths so far and discharge of 704 Covid19 patients after full recovery. In just last 24 hours, the city had increase of 349 new Covid19 cases. Countrywide, Ahmedaad is number two after Mumbai in terms of number of Covid19 cases and deaths. India’s fight against Covid19 is mainly focused at the situation of 15 cities. Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara in Gujarat are among them.

In a bid to combat and contain novel coronavirus COVID-19 more aggressively, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today appointed Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) for Forest & Environment Rajiv Kumar Gupta as Officer on Officer on Special Duty ‘OSD Control’ for testing, treatment, surveillance, supervision and monitoring the operation. He has the experience of executing the Statue of Unity near the SSP Narmada Dam in a short time. Similarly, he appointed Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) for Revenue as ‘OSD Coordination’ for supervising, monitoring of entire support system for fighting COVID-19. He has the experience as Principal Secretary Health earlier.

The Chief Minister appointed Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) Vice-Chairman and CEO Mukesh Kumar as In-charge Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nehra, who has been advised quarantine at home for 14 days after coming in contact with corona positive cases. Mr. Kumar is well versed with Ahmadabad as its past Municipal Commissioner.

Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Anil Mukim held videoconferencing with two newly appointed OSDs, Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners of Municipal Corporations to prepare future strategy.
