CEC forms 3-member committee to study Gujarat HC judgement on Chudasama’s Dholka election

New Delhi: In view of Gujarat High Court invalidating the election of Gujarat cabinet minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama from Dholka assembly seat in general elections of Gujarat assembly of year 2017, the Chief Election Commissioner of India Sunil Arora has, after discussion with EC Secretary General Umesh Sinha on telephone, directed a 3-member committee of officers to study the judgment and put up matter to Election Commission at earliest. The team is headed by Umesh Sinha, Secretary General and comprises two officers, DEC Chandra Bhushan Kumar and Director Law Vijay Pandey. In this matter direction had already been conveyed to Gujarat Govt to initiate disciplinary action against the then Returning Officer Dhaval Jani. Jani was also removed from election duties during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in view of the interim order of the Honble High Court in the matter.
