AMC serves show cause notice to Rajasthan Hospital over death of Covid patient, denial to allocate 50 per cent beds for Covid

Ahmedabad: Amdavad Municipal Corporation(AMC) has served show cause notice to city’s Trust operated Rajasthan Hospital for breach of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The show cause notice states that the hospital was responding very casually and in irresponsible way to AMC officials. The hospital has 125 functional beds, out of which AMC was supposed to get 62 beds for Covid-19 patients. However, the hospital has provided only 23 beds so far and that too after several visits and bargaining by AMC officials. During each visit by AMC officials, different counts of beds and ventilators available in the hospital were given by Deputy MS Mr. Parmar. On 18th of June, there was a serious lapse in duty by the hospital which resulted into death of a Covid19 patient Harish Kadiya (73). The deceased was shifted from Lifecare hospital to Rajasthan hospital as he was in nee of ventilator support. Dy Health Officer confirmed availability of ventilator at Rajasthan Hospital in advance but when the patient was taken to Corona gate of Rajasthan hospital, the hospital staff did not open the said Corona gate for approximately 20 minutes and after huge tussle when gate was opened, the staff of hospital took another 10-15 minutes to bring stretcher. The report by Zonal Deputy Commissioner is supported by CCTV footage.

AMC has in its show cause notice asked Rajasthan hospital that why AMC should not file criminal complaint, why AMC should not initiate appropriate legal proceedings, why heavy penalty should not be imposed, why hospital’s ‘C’ form registration should not be cancelled.
